1) How would you deal with different sizes in the views? I assume you will have to resize the NSTabView and the parent view.

2) What about animations and effects (e.g. fade-out,fade-in) it seems a lot more work to be involved while here is quite simple to add such effects.

Nice publication!

But I think the path you are following is not the best Apple’s recommandation are to use a NSTabView with no visible tabs. You’re controller just listens to toolbar clicks and just asks for the tabview to change tab.
You’re approach looks like the one used on the iPhone regarding to view switching.

Great code, Patrick. I’m going to use this for my upcoming Mac ASCII Art Viewer “Ascension”. One thing to mention: for document-based Cocoa applications the above excerpt won’t work, as these templates already come with a built-in outlet pointing at MyDocument’s main window. Adding the outlet to your MyDocument class is not necessary, because it won’t respond anyway. Instead you have to talk to the NSWindowController directly. In MyDocument.m, navigate to the: – (void)windowControllerDidLoadNib method.

Beneath [super windowControllerDidLoadNib:aController]; add the following line to make it work:

[aController.window setContentBorderThickness:20.0f forEdge:NSMinYEdge];

Even though I don’t sell licenses, i use AquaticPrime to lock my beta projects in place… When someone types an invalid key, I edited it to say “Hey (insert end user here)! Your not a Beta Tester!”

Please don’t forget to remove the observer using:

CGSRemoveConnectionNotifyProc()

Otherwise things can go a bit screwy once your app quits.
